Romain de Tirtoff (pseudonym Erté, a French pronunciation of initials R.T.) was a Russian born, French artist and designer.  Erté is famous for his elegant fashion designs which capture the art deco period in which he worked.

Arthur Rackham, born in 1867, was a prolific English book illustrator.  He studied at the Lambeth School of Art and his works were included in numerous exhibitions, including one at the Louvre in Paris in 1914.

Jean Béraud, born in 1849, was a French Impressionist painter and commercial artist.  He painted many scenes of Parisian daily life during the Belle Époque, in a style that stands somewhere between academic art of the Salon and that of the Impressionists.

James H Dowd, born in 1884, worked as a draughtsman, etcher and painter and was a regular contributor to ‘The Graphic’ and ‘Punch Magazine’.  He provided illustrations for many books including ‘Important People’ and ‘People and Importance’.

Alberto Vargas, born in Peru in 1896, was an accomplished and respected pin-up girl artist.  He produced lobby paintings for Ziegfield Follies in the 1920s and portraits of Hollywood stars in the 1930s.  He also provided artwork for the ‘Esquire Magazine’, mainly ‘Varga’ girl centrefolds and this is generally felt as his best work.
